At Outlier Striking MMA we hope to train to become the very best, to stand out, and be set apart.
Carlos started his journey as a fighter with Brazilian Jiu Jitsu- training with Nova Uniao in Flamengo, Rio de Janeiro under Dede Pederneiras. Soon after, he won gold as a blue belt in a Rio de Janeiro State championship.
At Nova Uniao, during cross training for the Ruas Vale Tudo, Carlos also began training Muay Thai under Pedro Rizo, Renato “Babalu” Sobral, and Alexandre “Baixinho” Barros. He soon started competing in Vale Tudo fights himself, in Minas Gerais, Sao Paulo, and later throughout New Jersey.
In early 2006 Carlos moved to the US, continuing his training in both BJJ and Muay Thai while adding on wrestling and western boxing. Boxing especially caught his attention, and by 2012 he became a Golden Gloves NJ lightweight champ. Using his Rutgers degree in physical therapy and his extensive training, Carlos has great interest and expertise in physical conditioning of all kinds.
